About Crowdfunding

At Columbia University, our faculty, researchers, and students are developing solutions to the greatest challenges of our time. In fields as diverse as improving access to education, responding to our changing climate, and revolutionizing health care and health systems, Columbia is there, asking the tough questions and finding the best solutions.

Crowdfunding at Columbia is a way to engage with the University, your way. It provides you with an opportunity to choose projects that are most meaningful to you and your family and provide direct financial support to those efforts. Along the way, we will do our part to provide you with important updates on the research you’ve supported, the individuals you’ve sponsored, and the change you have created. We’ll even offer ways to get involved that go beyond financial support.

Through Crowdfunding at Columbia, you can take part in an important Columbia tradition: making our world a better place. Take the journey with us…together, we can accomplish amazing things.

What if my project doesn’t meet its funding goal?

If a project’s campaign falls short of its funding goal, the funds raised in support of the project will be used by the applicable department for a project with a similar goal.

What happens if a project is overfunded?

If a project’s campaign raises more than its stated funding goal, the excess will either be used to expand or enhance the project, or be used by the applicable department for a project with a similar goal.
