Support a College Student: The Young Alumni Scholarship

We did it! We are so excited to have surpassed our increased goal of 600 young alumni donors and are thrilled to announce that there will be two Young Alumni scholarships created.

Any gift made through December 31 will continue to support these Young Alumni scholarships and further the collective impact they will have on our scholarship recipients.

Thank you so much for your support!

What is the Young Alumni Scholarship? The Young Alumni Scholarship is an opportunity for the Columbia College young alumni community to make a real difference in the life of a current College student. The collective support of young alumni (classes of 2007 - 2016) will create new scholarships to be awarded to a student this year.

How does the Young Alumni Scholarship work? It harnesses the power of the young alumni community. When 500 young alumni made gifts to the crowdfunding initiative last October, a new scholarship was awarded to a Columbia College student. Now that we've surpassed our initial 500-person goal, we're looking for another 100 alumni to help us award a second scholarship by December 31. Whether you give $10, $100, or at the John Jay level, your gift will be combined with gifts from other young alumni to create another Young Alumni Scholarship.

How will I know my contribution made a difference? In March you'll receive a profile of the student whom your gift has helped and see the value of your investment in Columbia. Young alumni who give at the John Jay Associates level ($100 for every year since graduation) will be invited to the Dean’s Scholarship Reception in February where they will have the opportunity to meet the Young Alumni Scholarship recipient.

Does my gift really matter? Yes! And we’re counting on you. Nearly 50 percent of Columbia students receive grants from Columbia and the average amount awarded is $47,490.Your gift helps to make Columbia’s need-based, no-loan financial aid possible.

What can I do? Make a gift today and tell your friends about it. Promoting this initiative among your College network is vital to its success. Start sharing on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram why giving to the Young Alumni Scholarship is important to you and be sure to use the hashtag #EvenALittleMeansALot
